The Problem
➡️ The amount of blood donated is a fraction of what is needed.
➡️ Prescriptions and medical records are not stored online.
➡️ Blood donation is heavily reliant on family and friends.
➡️ Blood donation myths, anxieties, and misunderstandings among the general population.
The Design Process
📌 Discover
Quantitative Research
➡️ Around 11 million blood donations are collected in India every year against the required 13.5 million for 1.35 billion population in the country (1 per cent), leaving a gap of nearly 2 million.
➡️ And due to the lack of customer satisfaction and donor loyalty, repeat donations are also low (0-30 per cent).
➡️ Every year, India wastes about 6.5 lakh units of blood and blood components.
➡️ The primary factors that lead to blood being wasted are deterioration during storage and expiry, but can also be due to issues such as broken bags and/or seals, contamination under donations, clotted donations, delays in conducting tests due to staff shortage and improper transport.
User Interviews and Surveys
After performing user interviews with 20 people and an online survey with 90+ responses, we discovered areas of key problem about the current blood and organ donation process and opinions about digital technology in the healthcare sector.
To understand the problem better, we created 3 segments for user interview and survey:
➡️ Regular donors
➡️ Donated once or twice
➡️ Never donated but interested
Key Insights
➡️ People are interested in giving back to society but are unable to take action because of lack of awareness
➡️ Some had problems claiming blood, just because they didn't have their donation certificate
➡️ Sharing review and experiences from donors' contribution processes can encourage others to donate
➡️ Introducing the reward system will help to attract the college students for the donation drives
➡️ The digitisation of cards and certificate is more preferred than the physical form people get after the process
➡️ People will contemplate visiting their prospective adjacent campaigns if they are aware of them
➡️ People are concerned about whether the staff at the campaigns are well trained professionals or not
➡️ Most of the users felt that social media is the main source of marketing and advertising which will thus help in creating awareness.
Pain Point
🔴 Unable to locate and search for blood bank facility on time
🔴 Unable to find donors on time
🔴 Did not carry my donation certificate / card hence was refused for blood unit
🔴 No information about the nearby campaigns.
🔴 Concerns regarding safety of the procedures and if the staff is professional.
🔴 Medical history and papers require a lot of physical file storage which is difficult to track.

🔴 Lack of information about where the camp is being conducted and many other details about the camp are unknown.
🔴 Want to know how much blood they have donated till date and how much they can get from blood bank(free/minimal price) when needed.
Competitive Analysis
We explored the functionality and features of the existing blood donation applications namely eRaktKosh and Friends2support.org applications. And, the Competitive Analysis research is mentioned below:
📌Define
Persona & Empathy Mapping
We created two personas and their empathy map based on the facts and insights we gained from the research.Personas include one who is a regular donor , another who has contributed just once and is unwilling to donate again due to a terrible experience.
📌 Ideate
Customer Journey
Created the customer journey of the above personas created for the application.Journey map user might take during their task completion of the mentioned scenerio, Also user feelings and future opportunities are mentioned for each stage.
Brainstorm Ideas
How Might We
Task Flow
Created task flows for tasks namely:

🎯 Find blood unit or near by donors : User can search required blood after entering the required details and the list of available book units can be seen in nearby blood banks.
